In its official press release, the USPS said these new stamps were designed to highlight one of the most iconic symbols of summer fun in the USA: the popsicle! Officially called “Frozen Treats Forever,” these stamps will be First-Class Mail Forever stamps. Each booklet of Frozen Treats Forever has a total of 20 stamps with 10 different designs.
The release date for Frozen Treats Forever stamps is set for June 20th at Austin’s Thinkery Children’s Museum. Officials at the USPS said they will address all concerns people have raised about how these stamps will smell and how to best use them at their release ceremony.
Anyone not fortunate enough to be in the Texan capital on June 20th could watch the release event live-streamed on the USPS Facebook page. USPS employees encourage everyone watching to spread the summer fun with the hashtag “#FrozenTreatsStamps.” Be sure to log onto your Facebook profile at 6 PM CDT to watch the entire ceremony.
Magrikie Berg, a South African-born artist now based in Santa Monica, is responsible for all the watercolor illustrations in the Frozen Treats Forever series. Besides working with the USPS, Berg has also created illustrations for big-name companies like Hallmark, UK Greetings, Godiva Chocolatier, and Penguin Books.
In an interview with the New York Times, Berg said she completed these popsicle illustrations at the request of the USPS in 2015. She also told journalists these illustrations have a special significance for her as a new American citizen. Berg was completing her US citizenship application while she was working on her popsicle illustrations.
One book of 20 Frozen Treats Forever stamps costs $10. If you want, you can pre-order a set of these stamps today on USPS’s official website.
About The Frozen Treats Scratch & Sniff Stamps
Many of the popsicles in Berg’s designs are fruity flavors such as watermelon and blueberry. There’s even one bright yellow pop with a kiwi, strawberry, and orange wedge frozen inside.
Besides fruit, Berg also included illustrations of all-American favorites like dark chocolate, Coca-Cola, and root beer. There are two different popsicles on each stamp, some of which have two popsicle sticks.
Antonio Alcalá, who works at the Corcoran College of Art & Design, was the lead art director on the Frozen Treats Forever collection. Studio A designer Leslie Badani also played a key role in this stamp series’ design.
In addition to the pops, each of these stamps will have “Forever USA” featured prominently on the bottom line.
